Top 5 Things to Help Prepare Your Child for Kindergarten

Everyone talks about school supply lists, but no one talks about the real stuff that makes the transition easier—for them AND for you.

Here’s what you can focus on instead:

  1. Independence basics

    Not perfection—just confidence.

Putting on shoes, opening snacks, using the bathroom solo.

Little things that make a big difference in a classroom.

  1. A simple morning routine

    Nothing fancy. Just predictable.

Wake up → get dressed → eat → out the door.

    Less chaos = calmer kid.

  1. Easy, realistic lunches

If it takes 20 minutes to pack, it’s not sustainable.

Think: foods they already like, can open, and will actually eat.

  1. Talking about what school feels like

    New = exciting AND scary.

We’ve been practicing things like: raising your hand, asking for help, and “what if you feel shy.”

  1. Something familiar from home

A keychain, a note in their lunchbox, a small comfort item.

They won’t always need it—but it helps in the beginning.

Kindergarten prep doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start small and feel the difference in the first few weeks of school!
